Asbestos Management Surveys

Locate suspected asbestos-containing materials in a building and assess their risk.

The service

What it involves

A management survey locates, as far as reasonably practicable, any suspected asbestos-containing materials in a building and assesses the risk of each one.

We inspect all accessible areas, and any material we can’t confirm is presumed to contain asbestos. We collect representative samples and have them analysed for asbestos. Samples from each type of suspect material can be analysed to confirm the surveyor’s judgement. Sampling normally takes place at the time of the survey.

Who needs it?

If you’re responsible for a building in everyday use, a management survey tells you where asbestos is and what condition it’s in, so you can manage it safely as part of your duty to manage.

What’s included

All of our management surveys include

  • Carrying out an asbestos survey in accordance with HSG264 Asbestos: The Survey Guide
  • Reporting on identified asbestos-containing materials, indicating their location, condition, type and content
  • Providing appropriate comments and recommendations
  • A full survey report, including material location photographs, analysis certification and an asbestos register

Good to know

Limitations

If it isn’t possible to fully examine every part of a building’s structure, we may need to make assumptions about the likely presence of asbestos, based on a more complete examination of other areas.

Asbestos-containing materials may be hidden in various places. We can’t comment on whether asbestos is present in areas we couldn’t access, for example where reaching them would mean causing unsightly damage to the fabric of the building.

For a refurbishment or demolition project, more survey work is needed than a management survey provides.
